I’ve played Plastiland off and on for about a year now, but I have mixed feelings about it. First let me explain what this game is.
Did you ever play the game Lemmings? It’s like that. Basically you are in control of a bunch of little guys (or girls?) that will just keep moving forward until you give them a command to do a certain action. Depending on the level, you can tell them to stop to make other little guys bump into them and then turn around, or you can tell them to drill down, climb walls, become a bridge (or tape measure in this game, but serves as a bridge), etc. You basically are trying to get as many of your little guys from the starting portal to the ending portal.
It is a puzzle platformer with very colorful graphics and really nice music and sound effects. There are 48 levels, each getting progressively harder, and then some other “bonus” levels with “unexpected mechanics”.
I loved Lemmings (which was pretty much the same kind of thing). And I love the graphics and music in here. I’ve played it off and on for a year. So why do I say I have mixed feelings? Why did I finally uninstall it today?
Well… the fact is… it’s hard. I’m only at level 13 and have struggled this far. Maybe I’m getting old, maybe my brain just isn’t working well enough for these kinds of puzzles… I don’t know. I did fine with other puzzle games! Heck, my favorite game is Portal. That’s nothing but puzzles!
What makes it worse is that a lot of places I have read say that this game is geared for “young children”. One place even said 4 year olds. Now if that isn’t a slap in the face I don’t know what is. So do you see my struggle?
Personally, I would not recommend this game for 4 year olds. And apparently in my case, not 34 year olds either. Maybe 10 year olds… they seem to be good at this stuff.
