Game Review: Heroes of the Storm

Okay so I am a major World of Warcraft fan… yet I have to confess that I had not tried Blizzard’s game Heroes of the Storm until tonight. Basically this is because I used to really like League of Legends until the sexism and girl-bashing just got to be too much for me. I love the game, but ultimately didn’t want to have to put up with the negativity.

Heroes of the Storm is basically Blizzard’s version of League of Legends. It is a multiplayer online battle arena game where you get to play using pretty much any characters from the Blizzard universe (World of Warcraft, Diablo, Overwatch, etc). I have to admit, it is really funny to see Diablo and King Varian Wrynn fighting side by side. Your ultimate goal is to blow up the other team’s central tower, fighting past bad guys and towers to get there… all while protecting your central tower from the bad guys.

Right now, until March 14th 2017, Blizzard is running a “quest” where if you play 15 games of Heroes of the Storm as someone from the WoW universe with someone from your friend list, then you can get a special mount in World of Warcraft. Obviously I really like World of Warcraft, so this appealed to me!  My brother asked me to play to help him get his mount, and so here I am.

Now remember, I loved League of Legends other than the other people in it. Heroes of the Storm really is a lot like LoL, only in my opinion it is better. The maps are a little smaller which I like, and I love the character options. Plus–> Playing against the AI still counts! I can play with my brother and we can just play with the computer generated AI characters rather than other people. We actually did play a game with others in it and they really didn’t talk much at all, so it probably wouldn’t be that big of a deal… but I guess I’m a little traumatized or something.  The idea that I can play this game single player or with my brother and not have to face any negativity and insults from others really makes this enjoyable for me.

The game is free to play.  You can spend real money to unlock heroes, but they also have heroes available that you can play and they switch the available heroes up each week so I think that would be fun to keep it interesting, and give you a chance to test out characters before committing to purchasing any. If you are looking for a new video game, I recommend downloading it and running through the tutorial at least. It is free, and I think you’ll have fun with it! Click here to go to Blizzard’s website and read more or get the game

I’m glad you liked HotS! Because we still need to play some more games of it to unlock our WoW mounts 🙂
