Amazing Princess Sarah. I purchased this game on Steam (PC) for $4.99.
This was a game I really enjoyed! It has the feel of a classic 8-bit platformer like what I would have wasted several hundreds of quarters in at the arcade. Very retro. With a strong female lead (who obviously was designed with a male audience in mind… but still, always cool to have a heroine!).
The game is created by a company called Haruneko. It is available on the Xbox 360, Xbox One, Steam, Desura, and the Windows Phone. On Haruneko’s website They have a write-up about the game that says:
“You are Sarah, princess of the peaceful realm of Kaleiya. The quiet life of your kingdom was lost the day your father was seduced and then kidnapped by Lilith, a demon mistress. Her only desire is to dominate your empire and kill you. Use your powerful sword to kill all Lilith’s minions, then quickly throw the dead body on the next enemy to perform amazing combos! Travel through ice castles, cold dungeons, lava caves and much more – straight to the castle where Lilith hides! Bring your father and king back home!”
I played Amazing Princess Sarah on Steam using the Xbox controller hooked up to my computer. I also tried using just the standard keyboard settings and both ways worked out great, no complaints. I preferred using the controller but if you don’t have a controller and are playing on your computer, no worries.
In this game, you are running through a basic platformer. Sarah can pick up chairs and other objects to throw at the bad guys or she has a sword as well. When she picks up an item and holds it over her head it reminded me a lot of Super Mario 2 the way they have the animation. After you kill a bad guy you can pick up the bad guy and throw it at another bad guy to cause damage. There are switches you need to find, traps to avoid, areas to jump from one square to another… very classic platformer. Lots of review sites compared it to Castlevania. I didn’t have Castlevania come to mind while I was playing it but after reading other reviews I can see how they got that.
I haven’t beat it yet but really am enjoying it. I am sure I will keep playing.
If you like platformers and are a fan of the classic style, I would highly recommend this game!
*Note- these are just my own opinions of this game and I am receiving no financial support from anyone related to this game… or anyone at all for that matter!
