(“Surge” or “the Company”) (OTC Pink: SPRS), a leading supplier of capacitors, discrete semi-conductors and audible/sounding devices, today announced financial results for the fiscal third quarter ended August 31, 2019.  Ira Levy, President and Chief Executive Officer of Surge commented, “I am pleased with the Company’s strong execution in the third quarter. Driven by disciplined cost management and an ongoing commitment to servicing higher margin customers, Surge’s gross profit grew 14.6% and gross margins increased to 29.9% versus 22.7% in the year ago period. Waste-Management System Cleans Up With UHF RFID – 2019-04-09 – Page 1

European waste-management company Compta is using RFID technology to automatically gain visibility into bin collection as part of its Bee2Waste program. The passive UHF solution was installed by TechSigno using the latter’s cloud-based software, as well as RFID reader technology from Chainway. Compta has employed RFID for more than a decade to track almost 250,000 containers used by its customers throughout numerous European cities. The system has employed low-frequency (LF) technology, which was captured and managed by a variety of processes and software platforms, depending on the municipality or company. The technology company sought a more seamless solution that would make the management of bins easier and universal across all of its clients’ sites, says Sérgio Spinola, Compta’s product and systems engineer. So for the past five years, the firm has been migrating to a UHF-based solution that could be used across its customer base. With UHF technology, the readers could capture tag ID numbers at a distance of several meters, and enable workers to capture and input tag data more quickly and easily than they did with LF RFID. Users of the TechSigno solution, e...

This extrusion assembly, used for a floating staircase stringer, is a modular design that includes two custom extrusions made from 6005A aluminum. The three-piece slip-fit assemblies connect to specifically designed channels that are joined without fabrication. Photo courtesy of Almag Aluminum Inc., Brampton, ON Canada. While steel is a material of choice in many industries, including construction, aluminum has a lot to offer. Known for its weight, strength, durability, corrosion resistance, low maintenance, and finish options, aluminum can help a product designer or an architect get to destinations that steel can’t reach. As one of the most recycled industrial materials, it also makes a substantial contribution to sustainability efforts. Extruded aluminum components are well-suited for use in door frames, windows, curtain walls, canopies, sun shades, light fixtures, and handrail systems, and while aluminum is readily available in many off-the-shelf profiles, this isn’t the end of the road. If you’re looking for something unique or distinctive, custom extruded profiles offer nearly endless opportunities to create something new and unique. You might hesitate to venture into unkno...

Every Smart Light That Works with Alexa (And How to Get Them)

Now with six Alexa-enabled devices of its own (and plenty more from third parties), Amazon is dominating the smart-home voice-assistant market. One of the easiest and most practical uses for such an assistant is to control the lights in your house with nothing but your voice. But which lights work with Alexa, and how much do they cost? We’ve broken it down my manufacturer and will add to the list as more become available. Philips was one of the first companies to get into the smart home space, and the company’s lights work with the greatest number of smart home systems. Philips also has a wide range of lighting (you can get details on all of the Philips Hue lights here), ranging from simple white lights to colored LED strips. However, in order to connect Philips lights with Alexa, you’ll need the Philips hub, which is included in the company’s starter kits. To keep things somewhat simpler, we’ve only included bulbs and lightstrips, and not standalone light fixtures. Lifx’s bulbs have built-in Wi-Fi, so they can communicate directly with Alexa without needing a hub. Like Philips, these bulbs come in standard A19 and BR30 sizes, as well as a lig...

It incorporates LED lighting around the traditional bow tie to accentuate your vehicle’s badge (hence the “glow tie” name). The glow tie kit comes as a pair, featuring an illuminated front emblem and a non-illuminated back one. Select from either gold or black, depending on your preference. The former costs $275, while the latter costs $325. The glow tie easily attaches via snap fit, so you can easily install the kit on your own. (Let the do-it-yourself crowd rejoice.) You’ll need a heat gun, 12.7-mm drill bit, and drill motor t...

How Push to Use Talcum Powder Led to Ovarian Cancer Crisis

For decades, women have been taught to use talcum powder as part of their feminine hygiene routine. Advertising has perpetuated this myth by telling us we need a “sprinkle a day” to feel sexy and smell good. But medical experts say there’s no need for women to use talc in this manner and warn it may raise your risk of cancer. In a St. Louis courtroom in June 2018, Gail Ingham reflected on her three decades’ use of Johnson’s Baby Powder. The 73-year-old St. Louis native told jurors she had started using the iconic product to stay fresh and dry around 1957 when she turned 13. “I saw on TV back then a lady holding a small bottle of Johnson & Johnson powder and saying, ‘Use this for your daily hygiene.’ That’s where I saw it and that’s what gave me the idea to use it,” Ingham testified. She stopped dusting herself with baby powder in 1985 when she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, not realizing at the time that the two might be linked. She was simply following her doctor’s orders not to use anything on her body without his permission. But following a six-week trial in the summer of 2018, a jury concluded Johnson’s Baby Powder and other talc-based products contained the cancer-...
